Towards a Quantification of Uncertainties in 3-D Geological Models
نویسندگان
چکیده
Uncertainties are common in 3-D geological models, due to different causes. We address here uncertainties introduced by input data quality and incomplete knowledge with a stochastic approach. Instead of only one model, we obtain a set of probable realizations. We then apply information entropy to analyze and visualize uncertainties in discretized representations of the models. In a simple example, we use this approach to compare uncertainties of different geological scenarios. The results can also be analyzed quantitatively, suggesting that the method has a potential beyond pure visualization and, actually, gives uncertainties a meaning. The Quantification of Uncertainties in Production Prediction Using Integrated Statistical and Neural Network Approaches: An Iranian Gas Field Case Study
Uncertainty in production prediction has been subject to numerous investigations. Geological and reservoir engineering data comprise a huge number of data entries to the simulation models. Thus, uncertainty of these data can largely affect the reliability of the simulation model. Due to these reasons, it is worthy to present the desired quantity with a probability distribution instead of a sing...
متن کاملGeological uncertainties associated with 3-D subsurface models
Subsurface models are generally built from both subjective interpretation and mathematical interpolation/extrapolation techniques. These models are therefore uncertain, but their uncertainty is rarely expressed in a geological forecast. In this paper, an evaluation method of geological uncertainties related to 3-D subsurface models is proposed and tested on a real case. This method is based on ...
متن کاملUncertainties and Complexities of the Geological Model in Slope Stability: a Case Study of Sabzkuh Tunnel
Slope stability analysis is a geotechnical engineering problem characterized by many sources ofuncertainty. In slope stability computations, some of these sources are encountered, such as geologicaldetails missed in the exploration program, estimation of soil properties that are difficult to quantifyand many other relevant factors. Therefore, accurate reproduction of the spatial variability in ...
متن کاملIntegrating structural geological data into the inverse modelling framework of iTOUGH2
The validity of subsurface flow simulations strongly depends on the accuracy of relevant rock property values and their distribution in space. In realistic simulations, this spatial distribution is based on two geological considerations: (1) the subsurface structural setting, and (2) smaller-scale heterogeneity within a hydrostratigraphic unit. Both aspects are subject to uncertainty, whereas t...
